Two comrades, rising from the ashes of battlefield, possessing the same wisdom from years of struggle to protect the motherland from invaders and lessons from the same teachers, should have the same the destination or at least the same pace towards the destination. Nonetheless they don’t. Why? After having similar foundations built bit by bit by the predecessors, one comrade is on the verge of conquering the world and the other is struggling to keep its head above water. The annual meeting of the CFA Society of Orange County (CFAOC) is typically a forum for financial discourse, but this year’s gathering took a refreshing turn. The spotlight shifted from balance sheets and betas to the unsung heroes of Orange County: the non-profit leaders who tirelessly serve the community. As a CFA charterholder deeply entrenched in the investment world, this change of pace offered me a unique lens through which to view the challenges and triumphs of these organizations.
